3 gallons of raw milk

The second week and day 10 of my raw Milk Cure Journey

Almost half way through this year’s journey. It’s been both harder and easier than I thought. I did go into this with no expectations, so the fact that I’m really not losing weight at this point, doesn’t disappoint me, I know that I’ll go back to my low carb way of eating when I’m done (ok, maybe a break for sushi again) and continue onwards in my health journey.

It’s harder because I feel that I’m experiencing more detoxing days and my bathroom trips are either all or nothing. I don’t recall that from last year, even though it might have happened. (I’ve been reluctant because of TMI to post much about my bowels in a clinical manner so I don’t have any other reference besides my imperfect memory).

It’s easier because the up and down cycles are shorter. Which means even though my good days are less, they happen more frequently.

Today was a good day.  I felt great all day. I got a bunch of reading in that I’ve needed to do in the morning/early afternoon.  GC finally came over.  We hadn’t seen each other in about three weeks due to both my traveling in March and how poorly I was feeling last weekend. We started a three-mile walk and ended up doing just over half of it. The walking started doing a number on my stomach so we turned back before our usual spot. He was good about it though.

Came home and hooray for regularity!  Finally, after a week, things are working normally.  What a relief. Guess I’m staying at 14 cups of milk right now.

The rest of the day was pretty prosaic. We hung out in the sunlight on the deck. I had my milk, he had some pork rinds and my home-made fermented tomato salsa. (It turned out really good and has kept since August so I guess I’ll make more next year). We then just cuddled on the couch and watched some television. Both of us were tired so we went to bed early.  But it was a really good day and I guess good days are spent doing things rather than simply recording them.

Vital Statistics

My weight is up slightly, but considering my output (minimal yesterday), I’m counting this as a win.  It’s still much lower than a few days ago.

Glucose levels are slightly higher and I’d love to see my fasting glucose go down, but really, the levels are pretty good and far better than last years. I’m really wondering if I can even call myself pre-diabetic anymore.

I’m seeing something interesting in my basal temperature though. This year, I’m consistently in the low 98 range rather than the high 97 range. Basal temperature is an indicator of basal metabolism, and this shows that I’ve upped my metabolism in the past year.

My tongue is whiter than yesterday.

Sandra, sounds like you had a lovely day.

I have been regular since I started adding in the yogurt at night. My BMs are not big in mass but are neither hard nor loose so I’m very happy. I still hear my tummy gurgle from time to time but there is not that urgency to find a bathroom. I just think it’s the liquid going through my large intestines. Peristalsis is going on in there and there is not much in the way of bulk to push around. Just my opinion, not really sure. Scale went down another pound today.

I was wondering if raw milk supplies all the nutrients I need, my main concern is all the B vitamins? I guess I’ll go research that. I know that egg yolks have the entire compliment of B vitamins and I have healthy happy yard birds who lay beautiful organic eggs. I thought about adding a raw egg to my smoothy at night to ensure I’m getting all those vital B vitamins. I’m certainly not worried about my minerals or my vitamin D. I see those happy healthy calves(two weeks old now) playing for hours running full blast and all they get is milk AND now they are grazing green pastures with their mothers. I love greens……..

Today marks one week on this milk cure. I’ve modified it to fit me and my lifestyle and have tried to do it intuitively listening to my body and its needs. Things I have noticed in just a week: I wake up much clearer headed with much more zip, I no longer drag my ass around for an hour waiting to wake up. I feel like I’m sleeping so much sounder and better. I’m having vivid dreams that I can recall easily. My energy level is much higher than normal and even though it dips in the evening it’s a straight slopping line through the day no more ups and downs. AND in one week I’ve lost 9.5 lbs! Yeah! I had no expectations when I started this and actually started it on a whim……..I was milking my cow one day after reading Sandra’s blog and thought to myself, “how cool is that? wonder if I could do that?”. I didn’t really see myself going a full three weeks but thought maybe I could do a few days….sort of like a juice fast……..it would be a milk fast. I start thinking about the milk curing my insides on a cellular level and it makes me want to continue on. I think three weeks is a good amount of time for a “cure”.

I’m easily getting my ten cups of milk in a day. I am still enjoying my morning cup of coffee and never thought I could live on only one cup of coffee but it’s very easy. In the late afternoons I sometime start having crazy thoughts about food, but I try to remind myself that I get a smoothy for super. I think that cooking for my husband is a challenge and part of the reason I start thinking about food but I’m managing it.

I usually have awful hay-fever in the Spring. I’m curious to see how that will go this year? I’m very allergic to grasses when they start making pollen. I live on a farm and hay season is horrible, I usually have to take some RX for a few weeks just to struggle through it. Breezing through allergy season would be a huge indicator to me of how powerful this milk cure is.
