7 gallons of raw milk

Day 7 of my Raw Milk Cure

Woke up from a deep and restorative sleep at 4am, darn it.  I don’t know why my body is so determined to wake up that early.  I know I start working at an ungodly hour, but for my body to be consistently waking myself up an hour and a half before I have to be up is just a cruel joke.  Tomorrow starts my weekend, I’m hoping I get to “sleep in” (as much as one gets to sleep in during a milk cure).

Waking up I felt well, during most of the day, I was fine with the exception of my knees aching. However, that changed in the early evening. Again, I’m starting to feel achy and lethargic with a lot of tummy rumbles and I ended up with running trips to the restroom again. I think I’m going to stay on 3 3/4 quarts tomorrow and see where that goes.

I’m noticing that I’m fine for most of the day and its late afternoon to early evening that I feel icky.  Which really does work for me, since I like getting stuff done early. Tomorrow will be slightly challenging since its my deep clean housecleaning day.  Has to be done, I think I’ll be fine to get it done (usually about 5-6 hours).

In the evening, I felt a bit dehydrated, so I had a glass of ice water. This is the only water I’ve drunk this entire week.

I feel like I’m tweaking this more than I did last year. But I also think that I don’t need the cure as much as I did then either. My body is reacting differently, my tongue still is just barely pinkish/white and its both easier and harder at the same time. I’m glad I didn’t have any expectations as to how it would be, and I’m finding it interesting to go back to the same day last year and see how I was doing. The fact is that I am so much healthier for having gone through the cure last year, and after going back to a way of eating that really makes me feel good. I really do best on a diet of real food with very limited amounts of grains and starches. Farm raised meats and vegetables, eating seasonally just feels right.  Oh and don’t forget the raw milk.  I hated milk as a kid and as an adult for most of my life until I tried it raw. I know now that I am lactose intolerant to pasteurized milk, but not raw milk.

GC and I are going camping with a bunch of friends the first weekend of May. I plan on turning all the milk I’m not drinking (the one to two cups a day I’m pouring off) into yogurt for the trip. I’ve also placed my first farm order for after the milk cure and I’ve ordered enough cow’s milk and goat’s milk to make chevre and cottage cheese for camping.  I’m not hungry for either of those, the milk is satisfying. But I know that by the time camping comes around, I’m going to enjoy my high quality foods again and continue on this journey.

So my weight went up again, but then again I haven’t eliminated much since Day 4. Blood sugars are up as well, I’m postulating that I’m on the up cycle (or down cycle depending on how you look at it) of a detoxing scenario. Considering that my food intake has been extremely consistent (3 1/2 quarts to 1 gallon of milk a day). It’s hard to think it can be anything else.  I’m really hoping to see a reduction in my weight tomorrow.  Anything but have it continue to go up.

Day four – Feeling amazingly well on this cure/diet. I have to wonder if there are foods that I may be “allergic” to that I was consuming? One good aspect of this milk cure is that it has eliminated all other foods that might have been harming my body. I find that in the late afternoon the detoxing symptoms hit me harder and I have to slow it down a bit. It’s also the time of day I have the hardest time thinking about “food”. I’m not hungry, it doesn’t feel like a sugar crash does, I just crave something solid and my brain seems to fixate on all the great things I could fix. I got plain crabby last night but then decided I was being a baby and went to bed early. Keeping my milk consumption at two and a half quarts. Yesterday afternoon through this afternoon I’ve had to make regular and frequent trips to the bathroom. Nothing major but I thought that on the amount of milk I was drinking I’d have the opposite problem??? Although I don’t time my milk consumption to the hour, I’d have to say that I do a good job of sipping my milk slowly and taking a very long time to drink a cup of milk. I feel like I’m drinking milk all day long, I guess I am. My weight held steady from yesterdays weight.

I think its easier for me regarding the food cravings because I don’t have much in my fridge right now and I don’t have to cook. Regardless I was trying to research out gluten free restaurants in MN near Mall of America for a conference I’m going to be attending in mid-May. So I’m still thinking about food.

Regarding the amount of milk you are drinking, everyone’s bodies are different. Consider cutting it down by a cup and see how you are doing. I’m still not regular and I’m tweaking constantly (giving it two days at the new level to see what is going on).
