6 gallons of raw milk

Day 6 of my raw milk cure journey

I slept really well, but guess what time I woke up?  4 am!  Not insomnia, the same feeling of “I’ve slept enough”. Still I dozed until my alarm because I need the rest.

Still woke up and spent most of the day feeling really well; no headaches, body aches or lethargy. The only problem is that now I’m not going to the bathroom much at all.  So tomorrow  I’m adding in a cup of milk, which will bring me to 120 ounces a day and I’ll be pouring my milk in 10 ounce increments. It’s definitely a balancing act this year.

It’s been nice to be this clear-headed. I got a lot of my work done, and even had the wherewithal to hit my school books after a full day (10 hours). However, after that detoxing symptoms started to come back.  Mostly tummy rumblings and feelings of lethargy.

I need to remember that this is a cure, that my body will go through cycles of detoxing and then feeling good until the next detox round hits. Its hard though to go through that. This was a good night for a detox bath though

There’s a relaxation to the milk cure, both in mind and body.  For my mind, it comes down to not having to worry about what I’m going to eat. I’ve also cleared my schedule so there isn’t anything I “have to do”.  Well work and study, but luckily I’m working from home right now and have no meetings planned. I don’t have to cook or clean up after eating. Okay, I wash my cup every night so there is that little bit, but no major cleanup. It’s a nice change to the usual pace.  It’s also nice that I don’t have to think about it. My iPhone app reminds me right on the hour that I need to take my cup upstairs and pour myself another cup of milk.  Of course I kept going upstairs with my phone and not my cup (‘Doh!’).

Yesterday I postulated that I wouldn’t see a weight loss and in fact would see the opposite since I really didn’t use the bathroom much yesterday. I was right, 2 pounds up.  But I’m not taking that as a true weight gain just yet. I’m feeling bloated today and hopefully things will get more regular.

But wow, look at that fasting glucose today, a 96.  Finally in the area I want.  My glucose levels are really good this time (over last) and I’m very pleased. I’m still absolutely amazed at how normal the levels are today.

I did find this link today Sugar – A Sweet Invitation to Disease that talks about sugar as a whole, but specifically mentions raw milk

“Raw milk has sugar in the form of lactose which is absorbed slowly. In fact, drinking raw milk actually can reduce blood sugar levels. Heating milk however changes the lactose into beta lactose, an unnatural form of sugar which is absorbed very quickly, triggering a release of insulin.”

Interesting stuff.  I definitely recommend the entire article.  But it’s another great reason to choose to drink your milk raw if you are trying to lose weight.

Today is day three for me on the milk cure……..Down another pound!! Yeah!! Managed to sip another two and a half quarts of milk yesterday. I did the math and figured out my daily caloric intake is around 1,600 calories with about 50% of the calories coming from fat. Still it’s a calorie defect for me and I’m not scared of fat from milk. I think about how every cell’s membrane is made of fat, how our brains are made of fat, how our nerve cells are coated in fat.

That was a great article about sugar, long but full of information. I’m sending a link to some family members. I raise honey bees and the normal thing among beekeepers is to feed the bees HFCS sold cheaply in five gallon buckets from our beekeeping suppliers. I refuse to do this, I let my bees keep more of their own honey. So I’m not the most profitable beekeeper around but I think my bees are healthier.

I’m glad you find it easier to not have to think about cooking or what you’re going to eat. For me, at least yesterday evening, all I could think about was what I wanted to cook and or eat besides milk. I fought the urges and won out, thank goodness my husband had plenty of leftovers in the fridge and he fixed his own meal.

I’m sure I’m going to have to continue the nightly routine of taking psyllium fiber in some diluted tart cherry juice before bed. I’m still having a morning bowel movement, normal for me but no other bowel movements and I usually have two a day. Also my feces are hard and more like balls coming out one after another than like a fiber log which was usual for me. Sorry – hope this wasn’t too graphic – I have friends who swear they’ve never even seen one of their bowel movements. I think that is too funny. OH! while on the subject! Yesterday I was gassy(and I hardly ever am) and it made me giggle a lot. At first they smelled like “baby farts” because of all the milk then last night they became horrid and I could have gasses a small village with the stink. I guess that’s some detoxing going on? Anyways for now the gas has subsided and I’m thankful for that, won’t be surprised if the gas returns…………ohhh stay tuned.

Sandra, I can’t thank you enough for being a brave pioneer in the field of health and for inspiring me so. My journey and adventure would not be happening if not for you.

I didn’t know that about the milk sugars. Good to know — don’t try to use raw milk if I’m crashing from too high a dose of insulin. (Usually milk is one of my go-to quick fixes, because it brings the sugar up quickly but comes with a hit of protein so there’s a bit more stability afterward. Works as fast as juice, and I don’t usually keep juice around.) But it explains why I didn’t have wildly crazy swings last year like I initially expected to. 🙂
